They've been widely acclaimed by Rolling Stone, NME, The Line of Best Fit, and numerous other music magazines. Now, one of New York's most hotly buzzed bands is set to make its way to Beijing later this summer.
Sunflower Bean – comprised of lead vocalist and bassist Julia Cumming, lead guitarist and vocalist Nick Kivlen, and drummer Jacob Faber – will bring their grooving, spirited take on indie rock to Modernsky Lab on August 18. The trio's debut album, Human Ceremony, was released this past February, leading one critic from Rolling Stone to call them “New York City’s coolest young band.” Watch out, the ghost of The Strokes. The Line of Best Fit, meanwhile, says Sunflower Bean's live performances are as impressive as their recorded output, describing Bean's gigs as leaving “everyone in attendance reeling."
But you don't have to take the critics' word for it: watch below to see Sunflower Bean perform "Easier Said," from their debut album. The stark black and white clip finds the trio playing the song in a nondescript room, where the sprite Cumming's bright songbird vocals reverberate over Kivlen's spindly, staccato fretting and Faber's jabbing percussion.
