It's not easy to find a restaurant in Sanlitun at the lunch peak without huge queues, meaning there's always a gap in the market for more healthy, affordable choices. As such, when we saw that Colormore had opened in the basement of Pacific Century Place, we didn’t hesitate to try it out.
Colormore opened two years ago as an online-only shop delivering healthy salads, and have now expanded into the offline world with this brightly lit and large space.
The menu is simple, featuring rice, pasta, sandwiches, salads (RMB 35-45), soups, and juices. Our favorite was the grilled salmon salad (RMB 45), a zesty and fresh option with a generous helping of salmon on top of a varied salad that kept things interesting. The beef and rice (RMB 45, pictured above) was also plenty to fill us up for lunch, with a healthy grain base of purple rice and trendy quinoa topped with medium-rare beef. We weren't sure about the decision to serve this with lukewarm rice, but the staff insisted that it wasn't hot "because it's a salad."
Colormore dropped the ball with the pasta (RMB 38), which was basic and in a Chinese style, with flavorless tomato sauce, cheap local vegetables and a sprinkle of tasteless cheese.
Thoughtful touches like serve-yourself lemon-infused water, comfy chairs, and eager-to-serve staff made Colormore a breezy choice. With little to complain about, reasonable prices, and decent portions, we're certainly adding Colormore to our list of healthy lunch options.
