Monday, June 5

The Naked Journey: How Naked Redesigned Working Spaces
Coworking startup Naked Hub’s cofounder Manoj Mehta holds a talk on the success and growth of co-working spaces, followed by a Q&A session. If you’re interested in helping your budding business grow, tag along to see how others are faring in Beijing's ever-morphing startup scene, or at the very least grab some free pizza and drinks. 7-9pm. Music Appreciation: How Do We Listen?
The Yale Center and Yale Club of Beijing cohost a music appreciation event that will feature chamber music performances by Mendelssohn, Debussy, and Schubert. The performances will be followed by a discussion on what makes chamber music so well-regarded and loved. Talented Yale School of Music graduates will perform at the event. 6.30-8.30pm. Classic Movie Tuesday: The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938)
As Brexit looms, Pop-Up Beijing is reflecting on the UK’s historical roots through film. Throughout June, Pop-Up Beijing will be screening classic and historic British dramas for their weekly Classic Movie Tuesday. These movies will rouse your spirit, entertain your heart, and add fire to your soul. The first movie to do so will be the classic The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938). Belt and Road and the Global Reach of China Inc.
Are you still unfamiliar with China's new One Belt One Road initiative? This Wednesday, Dr. Anil Gupta, Michael Dingman Chair of Strategy and Globalization at the University of Maryland, leads a discussion on the initiative and its impact on Chinese companies, as well as what impact it is likely to have during China's economic expansion through foreign countries and companies. 4-5.30pm. Opera Der Rosenkavalier (Pictured at top)
Come to National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) this Wednesday to witness the internationally-renowned Opera Der Rosenkavalier. Opera Der Rosenkavalier, or The Rose-Bearer, is composed by Richard Strauss and first premiered in 1911, describing the tragedies of life and love. The performance marks a one-off showing, so don't miss out! 7-9pm. Prices vary. NCPA

World Music Thursday at Modernista ft. The Blackwater
For a true Irish experience, watch Beijing-based Irish rock band Blackwater perform a traditional Irish repertoire, including likes of "The Limerick Rake,""The Foggy Dew,"'Wild Rover," and many more. Join Modernista as they dedicate the night to cultural fusions from around the world in the form of music, dance, theater, and stage. 9pm-midnight. Price TBA. Modernista

HYBRID: A Night of Cross-Genre Poetry, Film, and Music
HYBRID brings together some of Beijing’s top arts organizations for a night filled with film, poetry, and music. Artists of different mediums will collaborate together to push boundaries and smash preconceptions of artistic expressions. The event will feature live slam poetry, poetry videos, and poetry-music collaborations. Experience poetry like never before! 8pm. RMB 80, RMB 60 (advance). Yue Space

Film Screening: Two People
Beijing LGBT Center hosts a movie night this Friday, screening the queer independent movie Two People. This experimental film explores a world where only men exist, and by using dance, tells how relationships are affected by this mono-sex environment. 6.30-9pm. Donation (RMB 30 minimum). Nekroma EP Release
Beijing-based band Nekroma release their eponymous EP, the second in a trilogy, at DDC this Friday with a live performance and theatrics (read our interview with mastermind Dann Gaymer here). Supporting them will be duo December 3AM and Beijing’s own 4 Channels Club. 9pm. Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra
The world-renowned Rotterdam-based Dutch Orchestra returns to Beijing for an unforgettable and inspirational performance, bound to lull you with the mellifluous harmonies of their full range of musical instruments. 7.30-9.30pm. Prices vary. NCPA
