Our Events Watch series aims to highlight happenings that aren't focused on alcohol and drinking, but instead take a more educational or productive approach. Events include comedy, talks, networking events, markets, and dinners etc.


Tuesday, April 11

IBM Data Scientists Forum
IBM gathers data scientists to discuss machine learning, artificial intelligence and big data, in all of their applications, including helping to improve quality of life, shopping experience, and translation. Some of IBM’s scientists will be around to speak on topics like “The Charm of Data Science – a Data Guru Perspective” and “How to Start a Data Science Job in 20 Minutes.” Free (register here). 2.30-6.30pm. Building From Within: Developing a Strong Internal Talent Pipeline
This talk by Shaun Renwick, the site HR director for Proctor & Gamble Beijing Research and Development Center, focuses on developing organizational capacity by developing skills at all levels of the workplace hierarchy. Proctor & Gamble is a great proponent of this method of talent development, with 95 percent of employees joining the company at entry level. RMB 250 (non-members), Free (for chamber members). 4-6pm. Wednesday, April 12

The 女 Economy Summit
AmCham China and WeConnect International have put together an event to showcase expert perspectives on women's economic empowerment. The summit looks to collaborate with leading women's organizations to provide a platform for sharing best practices in developing female leadership and networking with likeminded people from the media, non-profit organizations, and top businesses. 9am-7pm. Rotaract Spring Cleaning
If you’re finishing up your spring cleaning and finding you have unused household items and clothing in good condition, why not bring them to the Roteract Beijing Club, who will donate them to people leaving in remote areas of China who are in need of warm clothing. Friday, April 14

Beijing Mentor Walks
The Beijing Mentor Walks started in 2013. This year’s participating organisations include Capital M, AmCham, AustCham, the Australian Embassy in Beijing, BritCham, VIVA, and the Beijing Women Network. The program brings together established and emerging female leaders in our community for a morning walk to discuss professional and personal successes, challenges, and aspirations. Charity Pub Quiz
Get your thinking caps on! This Friday, The Brick Taproom will host its legendary Drunken Pub Quiz to raise funds for Ms. Chen's Dog Rescue Center in Tongzhou. Grab your mates and think (or drink, if you want to reward yourself for not drinking Monday through Thursday) your way to victory! If you're going to drink, at least let it be for this cause. 'Home' The Global Musical
Produced, directed, and choreographed by Peter Farrell from Sydney, Australia, Home the Global Musical incorporates story telling images and various forms of dance and acrobatics, drama, and singing using traditional and contemporary music combined with spectacular lighting and special effects to create a wonderful new dimension in theatrical entertainment.

Earth, the wonder of our solar system, home, is most unique in the vastness of the universe. Life, a miracle in the universe, appeared around four billion years ago, and we humans appeared only 200,000 years ago, and yet humans have succeeded in disrupting the balance that is so essential to life on earth.
