Our landlord just jacked up our rent by RMB 2,000 per month. Although this was for the entire three-bedroom flat in an area that is increasingly popular, that's still a huge increase, and we didn't exactly have enough notice to move. This is especially true in the summer, when many people leave the country and thus their gorgeous apartments.
Even if you're not looking to move, the listings are pretty hilarious, as it seems real estate agents have never thought of cleaning up before posting their apartments online for the world to see.
Things to keep in mind when hunting for new apartments
- Apartments posted online can go quickly.
- Sometimes, if apartments look too good to be true, they are.
- Regardless of both of these things, it is often still worth contacting the agent as they will have more apartments similar to it and in the same neighborhood.
- Make sure to check whether you have to pay an agency fee of one month's rent on top of your month deposit and three months rent.
- If you know of a neighborhood that you like, visit real estate agents in the neighborhood too. Dropping in can really yield some different results than searching online.
